Gold ahead!

February 8, 2011

Hi members!
Although what we have done during practices these few days are rather boring, the scales, metronome and all, BUT these exercises are meant to help us develop a common pulse within us, so that we will not be rushing/slowing down everytime. If you are still unsure of your notes/fingerings, I urge you all to figure it out ASAP. Notes and stuff are the fundamentals and by right, you should not experience ANY PROBLEMS with notes. Also, take down what Mr Samuel tells you to (eg. detached note, slurs, crescendo etc.). All these little details is what differentiates a Gold band from the rest. And watch the conductor at all times.  MEMORISE THE WHOLE SCORE, which is not a difficult at all. Just play it a few more times and it will naturally sit within  you.

Our practice hours is already very little compared to other schools. So please display sense of urgency by moving quicker and  settle down within the time given. In actual fact, you took 15 MIN to set up today, which I find that it is way too much. 10 mins is a reasonable amount of time for everyone to set up and settle down.
– And as I have mentioned today, I do not want to hear Majors shouting, asking you to keep quiet or settle down. IT IS EXPECTED OF YOU to be silent and not talk unnecessarily during band.

Hope to have a more productive band prac on thursday. 🙂
